Top 10 Tips to Prepare for Your Boudoir Photography Session

Not knowing how to prepare for your boudoir shoot is perfectly normal. That’s what I’m here for! I can answer any questions you have, but sometimes you don’t know what questions to ask. There are a lot of emotions and feelings surrounding photos this intimate and nervousness is probably the most common.

To help you get ready, here are ten of the top tips!

Tip #1:

Make sure you try on all of your outfits at least 2 weeks before your shoot. Make sure you feel great in them and if you need a second opinion, feel free to reach out! The reason I suggest at least two weeks beforehand is to give us time to tailor them to you.

Tip #2:

Start stretching as soon as we get off the phone to schedule you! Posing can be more of a workout than you might think, so getting limber is a smart move!

Tip #3:

You don't have to have a fresh mani-pedi, but whatever you want your nails to look like, make sure they're consistent. For instance, if they're painted, just make sure they're not chipped. If you get acrylics, make sure they're not 3 weeks grown out.

Tip #4:

Wash and dry your hair the day before your shoot. It is imperative that your hair is dry when you show up, otherwise it will take the stylist much longer to do your hair.

Tip #5:

Try not to get sunburnt before your shoot. Tan lines can be smoothed, but redness and your discomfort will be a whole different beast to deal with. Your lingerie might dig into your sunburn and the last thing I want is for you to be in pain!

Tip #6:

Eat a light meal that you know won’t upset your stomach the day of your shoot. The last thing you want is to feel bloated and uncomfortable while you’re posing. Something light will help give you the energy you need to get through it!

Tip #8:

Hang out with a person you love spending time with the day before your shoot. Someone whose positive energy always has you walking away from your time together feeling amazing! Then carry that energy into the studio and rock it!

Tip #9:

Drink plenty of water leading up to your shoot and the day of! You should be doing this anyway, but make sure you do it now!

Busting Excuses About Boudoir Photography

When we’re letting fear stop us from doing something, we can think of all kinds of reasons why we shouldn’t do that thing. It’s a common human experience, so if you’re struggling with giving yourself excuses as to why you can’t do a boudoir photo shoot, you’re not alone. Here are some of the most common excuses and why you shouldn’t let them hold you back!

“I don’t have time for myself.”

The problem with this statement is that anything we HAVE time for, it’s because we MADE time for it. We prioritized it on the list of things that we needed or wanted to do. Baby, that means you’re not prioritizing yourself. I know, I know, you have responsibilities to your job, your family, etc. You’re not giving those responsibilities the best version of yourself if you’re not making time for you.

Your boudoir shoot is all about making you the priority. We’re here to make you feel good about yourself. Once more: You. Are. The. Priority. that way you can put your best foot forward everywhere else!

“I’m not where I want to be weight-wise.”/”I don’t fit the media’s idea of a good enough size.”

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, fuck the media’s standard of beauty! It was built to make the majority of people feel bad about themselves so they’ll buy this product, or book this surgery, what have you. It’s about the money! Let’s not line the pockets of corporations that want you to hate yourself.

If breaking the corporate greed chain isn’t enough, let me ask you this. How do you feel when someone HATES your favorite food? Do you give a shit? No. Or at least you shouldn’t. Food taste and beauty taste are both subjective. Why should you care what anyone else thinks of you? Find a feature of two that you love and base your entire self love around them until you find more. That positive shift just takes one little step and if you let it, it will snowball.

“I never feel sexy or sensual anymore so a boudoir shoot must not be for me.”

A boudoir shoot can help you reconnect with that side of yourself. It’s still there, it’s just buried by your duties and responsibilities and anything that’s standing in its way. It’s okay if you don’t feel sensual when you first walk through the studio door. You’re gonna feel like a beautiful, badass, sensual goddess when you walk out. And then when you see your photos, you’re going to be reminded of that feeling.

“A boudoir shoot is an investment and I don’t have all the money right now.”

You’re right, it absolutely is an investment. It’s an investment in yourself, which probably feels weird to you because you’re so used to putting others first. It’s okay to treat yourself. It’s okay to make time for you. You deserve it.

As far as having all of the money right now, don’t worry! We have super flexible prepayment plans for your session! You get to choose the due dates for your payments as well as the frequency (monthly, bi-weekly, weekly).
